Kathryn Goetzke, Founder

Kathryn Goetzke is the entrepreneur, philanthropist, strategic consultant and global depression survivor and advocate. She is the entrepreneur and innovator behind Mood-lites™, a brand that achieved over 35 million dollars in retail sales, was the first to do a nationwide cause marketing campaign for mental health. Kathryn is a pioneer in social impact entrepreneurism, baking it into her company philosophy in 2004 and raising over a million for charities.

As her role as Chief Mood Officer at The Mood Factory, her goal is to share her knowledge, and those of her experts, to create consumer products focused on sensory engagement that ‘Improve Moods’ globally. Armed with an MBA in International Marketing, an undergraduate degree in Psychology, and over 20 years of experience with small and Fortune 100 companies, she aims to make a positive impact on happiness, health and hope. Leatrice Eiseman


Leatrice Eiseman is a color specialist who has been called “the international color guru.” In fact, her color expertise is recognized worldwide, especially as a prime consultant to Pantone, Inc. the leaders in color communication and specification. She has helped many companies, from small one person start-ups to large corporations, make the best and most educated choice of color for product development, brand imaging, web sites, packaging, interior/exterior design or any other application where color choice is critical to the success of the product or environment.   She heads the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training and is also executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Her academic background includes studies in both design and business, a degree in psychology from Antioch as well as certification from UCLA for advanced work in psychology that earned her a Counseling Specialist certification from the University. Lee is the author of ten books on color.

She teaches a Color Design program twice yearly on Bainbridge Island, WA where she lives and works and  is the author of ten books on color. Her latest release is the Complete Color Harmony.

Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo

Elizabeth Lombardo, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who NBA star Shaquille O’Neal calls his “Head coach for happiness.” In her TEDx “The Science of Happiness,” Elizabeth explains that happiness is a skill that anyone can improve upon with the right training.  With that in mind, she is a consultant and international speaker for clients such as Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Lexis Nexis and SHRM.

Elizabeth is frequently interviewed by today’s top media outlets including Forbes, Wall Street Journal, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Fox Business New and Dr. Oz. Nadim A. Shaath, Ph.D.

Nadim A. Shaath, Ph.D. received his B.Sc. degree (Honors) in Chemistry from the University of Alexandria, Egypt in 1967 and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1973. He joined the Chemistry Faculty at the State University of New York at Purchase in 1975. In 1979-1980, he served as the Chairman of the Chemistry Department at Suny-Purchase and then joined Felton Worldwide, a flavor, fragrance and sunscreen company, as Executive Vice President and Technical Director. His most recent book, Healing Civilizations, is used by corporations around the world looking to learn more about the incredible properties of essential oils.

Rachel Herz, Ph.D.

Rachel Herz, Ph.D. is a neuroscientist and leading world expert on the psychological science of smell. She has been conducting research on the sense of smell, emotion, perception, motivated behavior and cognition since 1990. Dr. Herz has published over 70 original research papers, received numerous awards and grants, co-authored several college textbooks, and is an adjunct professor at Brown University and Boston College. She is also a professional consultant to various industries regarding smell, taste, food and flavor, and is frequently called upon as an expert witness in legal cases involving olfaction.

Dr. Herz is the author of two popular science books, The Scent of Desire: Discovering Our Enigmatic Sense of Smell, which was selected as a finalist for the “2009 AAAS Prize for Excellence in Science Books,” and That’s Disgusting: Unraveling the Mysteries of Repulsion, which analyzes the emotion of disgust from culture to neuroscience, and has received numerous accolades from both popular and scholarly presses. Currently in the process of publication, Rachel Herz has a new book that explores how our senses and psychology govern our perception of food, and the experience and consequences of eating.

Scott Mandell

Scott Mandell is currently President of Chicago area based Cannabistry Labs, and is the founder and former CEO of Chicago-based Enjoy Life Foods, a company dedicated to developing, producing, and marketing great tasting gluten free and allergy friendly food products (2001-2016). In February 2015, Enjoy Life Foods was acquired by Mondelez International, a $34 billion multinational food company in an all-cash transaction. In December 2013, Scott co-founded Mandell Ventures, a family-run business that invests its own capital in early stage operating companies and real estate assets. Prior to starting Enjoy Life Foods (1993–2001), Scott was a Vice President in commercial banking at American National Bank in Chicago (currently JP Morgan Chase).

Scott currently serves on the Board of Trustees (and as Treasurer) of SPOON Foundation, a member of the Young Presidents Organization, and is an active alumnus and frequent speaker at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He was named as a EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award Winner in 2015, was named to the Crain’s Chicago Business “40 Under 40” list in 2008, and was inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame in 2006. He earned an MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a BA degree from Indiana University (Bloomington).

Beth Pecenka

Beth Pecenka is Director of Marketing at Mercola Health Resources, and past Director at NowFoods. Beth is a P&L strategy and marketing leader with more than 15 years success in high growth, mid-cap manufacturing, food and wellness, retail, and financial services industries.

Dave Lampson

Dave Lampson is Vice President of Business Development at Launch Marketing, a creative sales and marketing firm with local roots and global reach. They launch products in the world’s largest retail stores and all major global retailers. Headquartered in Bentonville, AR with offices in China, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Minneapolis and Northern California, they have a proximity and perspective unmatched within the retail world.

Kirsten Straughan

Kirsten Straughan is a nutritionalist and serves as an advisor to the Factory. She received her undergraduate degree in nutrition and completed her internship at Loyola University Chicago. She is currently Clinical Assistant Professor, Director of Nutrition Science Program at University of Illinois at Chicago and a registered dietitian. Previously, she served at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago and four years of private practice nutritional counseling work, in addition to many nutritional educational experiences.

Susan Minamyer

Susan Minamyer has a Masters degree in Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago and an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Beloit College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and has conducted numerous psychological and behavioral research studies. Susan is a world traveler, cultural explorer and English teacher. She has edited multiple books and authored several papers and articles on moods and sensory experiences. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of iFred.
